BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Republican candidates for the Bernards Township Committee, Jim Baldassare and Kate Grochala, will hold a free campaign kickoff event at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 20.

The event will be held at the Liberty Corner Fire Company at 95 Church St. in Liberty Corner. Several Republican candidates for both state and county offices will also be there to meet residents. Light refreshments will be served.

Baldassare has served on the Township Committee since January 2018 and was appointed as Mayor in 2020. Grochala will be serving on the Republican ticket alongside Baldassare.

"We invite all of our residents to attend and meet both Kate and myself to learn more about us, our governing philosophies, and our reasons for serving in local government. Our goal is to ensure that we continue to put our residents first and keep Bernards Township as the warm and welcoming community which we have all chosen to call home," said Baldassare.
"I believe in service-based leadership and, as such, will listen and respect all opinions. I strongly believe in civil public discourse. As former Chief-of-Staff to then-Assemblywoman Denise Coyle, I engaged in constituent issues on a daily basis. I found helping others in this capacity to be both meaningful and gratifying. To that end, I am looking forward to serving the residents of Bernards Township. I want other families to have the same positive experiences which my husband and I both enjoyed when raising our family in Bernards," said Grochala.

  • Baldassare said he will continue to support instituting policies that have guided the Township to where it is today including:

  • Keeping the municipal tax levy as low as possible

  • Remaining 100 percent debt-free,Working with law enforcement and first responders to keep our community as one of the safest in New Jersey

  • Supporting substance abuse prevention and mental health services

  • Fighting overdevelopment and working collaboratively with local and state officials to find sensible solutions on affordable housing

  • Continuing to promote volunteerism as a means to engage residents to make our town a better place to live

  • To ensure that our local government remains limited, efficient, responsive, compassionate and community-focused.
